Central Library, Biswa Bangla Biswabidyalay

Introduction:

The university library remains at the heart of any academic institution, offering a rich collection and dedicated services to its diverse user community, including students, research scholars, faculty members, and non-teaching staff.

The Central Library of Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalay was established in 2020, alongside the foundation of the university, Central Library stands as a symbol of knowledge and academic empowerment. With its world-class infrastructure, it caters to the dynamic needs of the academic community of Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalay.

The Central Library is a three-story, centrally air-conditioned building equipped with an elevator providing access to each floor. It offers open access facilities and comprises a stack area, journal section, technical section, internet browsing area, and a reading room with a seating capacity of 100 users. "The library houses an impressive and ever-growing collection of nearly 5,000 volumes, covering 19 disciplines offered by the university, including Bengali & Tagore Studies, English Literature, History, Mathematics & Computing, Sanskrit & Indology, Linguistics & Endangered Languages, Education, Physical Education & Sports Science, Political Science & International Relations, Geography & Geoinformatics, Visual Arts (Painting), Music, Dance, Commerce, Business Administration (HR), Chemical Sciences, Physiology & Human Anatomy, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences & Microbiology.

Students, Teachers, and Staff can access the internet facility from computers, laptops, as well as their mobile handsets with Wi-Fi connectivity available at the library. For the career guidance of the students’ library also purchase Competition Success Review, Protiyogita Darpan, Frontline, Safollya, Desh, Employment News & Appointment & Career News, Karmakshetra etc. Three English & Three Bengali daily newspapers also subscribed by the library for the academic community of the university.

Aims and Objectives:

To select, acquire, organize, and effectively utilize information resources in alignment with the academic and research goals of the university, ensuring seamless access to knowledge.
To provide user-centric library services that facilitate the effective utilization of both print and electronic resources by students, faculty, researchers, and staff.
To cultivate and promote reading habits, especially among students, by highlighting the pivotal role of the library in academic success and career development.
To support the teaching community by providing access to emerging trends and developments in their respective fields, thereby aiding in professional growth and enhancing the quality of teaching.

Rules of the Central Library:

Membership is restricted to bona fide students of the university.
Alumni Membership: Provision is available for passed-out students to become library members.
Membership Card: Members must carry their valid library membership cards while using library facilities.
Discipline: Strict silence must be maintained inside the library premises at all times.
Book Condition: Borrowers should check the physical condition of books before borrowing. Any damage must be reported immediately.
Borrowing Limits: Students may borrow up to 3 books, and faculty members may borrow up to 10 books for a period of one month.
Non-Issuable Materials: Reference books, journals, and magazines are for in-library use only and cannot be issued.
Book Reservation: If a required book is already issued, students may place a reservation at the circulation counter.
Recall Policy: The library reserves the right to recall any issued book before the due date, if necessary.
Damage or Loss: In case of damage or loss of a book, the member must replace the book with a new copy of the same edition or bear the cost as determined by the library.
Overdue Returns: Books must be returned by the due date. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of library privileges for two weeks.
Mobile Usage: The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited inside the library to maintain a conducive learning environment.

Library Hours:

The library remains open every day from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including Saturdays and Sundays. It closes only on three national holidays:

15th August (Independence Day)

2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti)

26th January (Republic Day)

Membership & Borrowing:

All students and faculty members are enrolled as library members.

Students may borrow up to 3 books at a time.
Faculty members may borrow up to 10 books.

Support for Competitive Exams:

A wide range of books, journals, newspapers, and magazines are available to support preparation for various competitive exams, viz CSIR NET, UGC NET, WBSET, SSC and many others.

Digital Access & E-Resources

The library provides access to a rich collection of e-journals, e-books, and subject-specific databases through the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative – a single digital gateway to India's academic e-resources.

Facilities

Students can avail printing and photocopying services at nominal rates within the library premises.

Books Arrangements:

The central library arranges the books according to the systematic structure of a library classification scheme. Class No is assigned according to the 23rd edition of DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification). Every book has a QR Code for the issue and return of the book.

Safety and security:

The Central Library prioritizes the safety and well-being of its users. To maintain a secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff, the entire library premises are under constant CCTV surveillance. This system not only helps deter unauthorized activities but also ensures a sense of safety and accountability throughout the facility.

Future Plan:

The library is set to be fully automated through the implementation of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, enhancing efficiency in circulation, inventory management, and security.
